What is Geli-Stop and when is it used?
Geli-Stop is a tablet used for the treatment of acute diarrhea. It works shortly after ingestion, reducing the urge to stool, leading to less frequent bowel movements, and restoring stool consistency. The effect of Geli-Stop is based on pectin, tannin-albuminate, and magnesium peroxide. Pectin is highly water-binding due to its swelling capacity, making it constipating. It also has a high absorption capacity for bacteria and toxic metabolic products. Tannin-albuminate is a non-irritating tannic acid compound that has anti-inflammatory effects on the intestinal mucosa, further contributing to its constipating effect. Magnesium peroxide inhibits fermentation processes through the oxygen it releases. The combination of these three active ingredients also provides a disinfecting effect.
